Course Description:
This course is designed for people who need to inspect, test and fit tags to electrical equipment on a regular basis.

The course consists of learning topics in the following modules:

NSW Occupational Health & Safety Legislation
-
NSW OH&S Act 2000
- NSW OH&S Regulation 2001
- NSW WorkCover Code of Practice for Electrical Work
- Australian Standard AS/NZS3760 for Electrical Inspection
-
Records of Electrical Testing

Basic Electrical Theory
- Introduction to electrical principles
- Electrical units (amps, volts, watts, ohms)
-
Basic calculations using ohm’s law
-
Measurement using instruments against electrical parameters

Electrical Safety
-
Shock & Severity of electrocution
- Effects of current flow
- Circuit protection
- Earthing
- Safety Switches & RCD's

Inspection & Testing to AS/NZS3760:2003
-
Classes of equipment
- Types of Tests
- Using Portable Appliance Testing Equipment
- 240V appliance testing
- 3 phase and 415V equipment testing
- Electrical plugs & sockets


Participants will also receive training on several Portable Appliance Tester models and tuition in the following:

- Testing of Double Insulated Devices

- Testing of Earthed Appliances

- Testing of Extension lead sets

- Fitting and writing out the tags

- Maintaining the mandatory records of testing

Participants will receive course notes, copies of relevant sections of the legislation, notes on electrical principles and on completion a Statement of Competency and Laminated Yellow card with personal testing qualification number.
